One Leg Down

A little bit of exhaustion and a little bit of adrenaline and I am overflowing with excitement!

The journey begins / continues. In Newark for an overnight stay, gathering thoughts and papers and doing a final bag check. Didn’t sleep very well last night (hotel neighbors were having enough fun for the entire floor) but thankfully I had some time to rest and recharge this morning.

Looking around this space, I can’t help but notice some of the things I know I take for granted. Little things that are right at our fingertips that may not get a second thought in our daily lives:

Instant access to electricity. Clean running water. Clean HOT running water. Clean facilities. Clean linens. Fresh fruit and breads and more coffee and tea than I could probably ever drink in a day. Instant access to television (albeit mostly garbage during the day, but at least we have options). The Internet. Wifi. The ability to access Facebook and email from my phone, and then take a picture and write a blog post in an instant…which can then be viewed by someone in another country.

So much to appreciate and be grateful for, especially in this moment…knowing that I may not have these luxuries over the next few weeks.

I managed to fit all of my gear into a large duffle, which surprisingly made it into the overhead space from Denver to Newark. I hope to be as fortunate for this next flight.

One leg down, one to go…on to New Delhi!
